The Australian Charter Chapter of ICF
Notes from First 100 Hours SIG Session #1, 29 April 2026

Hosted & Opened by Jacqui Ferris MCC/ACTC, Director Coach Development | Closed
by Bismillah Pervez MCC, ICF Australasia SIG Support

Summary

This first session of the ICF Australasia First 100 Hours SIG welcomed 22 coaches working
towards or having recently completed their first 100 coaching hours. The session was
opened by Jacqui Ferris MCC/ACTC and closed by Bismillah Pervez MCC/ACTC.

Guest speaker Mariska, ICF Australasia elected President and PCC, shared her personal
story and strategies for building a coaching practice in its early stages. The session was
interactive and community-focused, designed to help participants identify their strengths and
connect with peers.

The breakouts focused on peer sharing around strengths, gifts, and asks within the coaching
community.

Session Structure

The session opened with a reflective question posed by Mariska: "Has there been a
time in the past where you faced a difficulty and overcame it successfully?
What were your learnings?"

First breakout rooms were small groups of 2 to 3 participants, intentionally sized so
every person had the opportunity to speak. Each person shared their strength area
and key learnings.

Volunteer sharing followed in the main room, with 2 to 3 participants spotlighted to
share with the wider group.

A chat box gratitude activity invited participants to acknowledge their own strength
areas. Mariska read responses aloud to the group.

Mariska wove her personal story and strategies throughout the session and shared a
brilliant SMART Goals model with the participants. This model would help the
participants to make their goals SMART (Specific-Measurable-Achievable-
Relevant-Time Bound) enough.

A series of reflective questions covering goals, personal strengths, gifts to offer other
coaches, and asks from the community were asked by Mariska.

Second breakout rooms were larger groups of 4 to 5 participants. Each person
shared their gift and ask. Participants were encouraged to exchange contact details
to enable connection after the session. It was made clear that ICF Australasia would
not facilitate post-session connections.

Mariska closed her section with a final reflective question: "What is the next step
that I can take?"

Cameras on and joining by computer were encouraged throughout. The session was
recorded with the full consent of the speaker and all participants.
