The Australian Charter Chapter of ICF
Notes from MCC SIG Session #2, 23 April 2026

Hosted by Bismillah Pervez MCC on behalf of Jacqui Ferris MCC/ACTC, Director Coach
Development

Summary

Session #2 of the ICF Australasia MCC Special Interest Group was hosted by Bismillah
Pervez MCC, stepping in on behalf of Jacqui Ferris who was unfortunately unwell. The
session welcomed a vibrant group of 20 MCC credentialed coaches from across Australia
and New Zealand, representing a wide spectrum of experience, from coaches newly holding
the MCC credential to those who have carried it for over 20 years.

The session featured a special guest presenter: Carrie Williams MCC, ACTC, former
President of ICF Los Angeles and founder of the ICFLA MCC SIG, which is now in its fourth
year. Carrie generously shared her time, expertise, and a powerful framework she has
developed, the Spectrum of Willingness, designed to help coaches diagnose where clients
truly are in their readiness to change, and how to adjust coaching accordingly.

The session opened with a warm welcome and personal check-in round facilitated by Carrie,
inviting each participant to share their name, how long they had held the MCC, their location,
and their energy/engagement level on a scale of 1 to 10. This check-in served as a
meaningful primer for the content that followed, as it mirrored the very concepts Carrie would
go on to introduce in the Spectrum of Willingness.

Guest Presenter: Carrie Williams MCC, ACTC

Carrie opened by acknowledging the caliber of the room, noting that every MCC present was
at the pinnacle of the coaching profession. She shared the story behind why she created the
ICFLA MCC SIG, a desire for community and growth at the master level, which she felt was
often missing. She spoke warmly of what the group has become: a space where MCCs can
open up, challenge each other, and have conversations that might be filtered elsewhere.

The Spectrum of Willingness

The Spectrum of Willingness was born out of Carries observations during the pandemic,
where she noticed that the clients who thrived in uncertainty shared one key quality:
willingness. The framework maps a full spectrum of willingness stages, from complete
resistance to full enthusiastic commitment. Carrie explained that willingness is not a fixed
trait, but a moment-by-moment choice that can be shifted.

The levels of the Spectrum, from lowest to highest, are:
