“Holding the space”: Easier said than done

Friday 5 February 2010

"Holding the space” is one of many terms bantered around coaching circles, receiving more lip than service. As a coach, you know you should be “holding the space” for your clients, but more than likely, you were never told how to actually do it. Without knowing it, you may be somewhat missing the mark!

Drawing upon research findings from her PhD study of coaching, in this presentation Dr Kerryn Griffiths uses an experiential and discovery learning approach to explain four components of “holding the space”.

You will come way with:

  • a deeper capacity to “hold the space” for your clients
  • an explicit understanding of a coaching process which, until now, has remained largely implicit
  • an experiential understanding of the crucial aspects of “holding the space”
  • findings from recent coaching research

Who should attend?:

  • Coaches of all persuasion
  • HR People
  • Anyone in leadership or management roles
