Australasian Conference 2007

The Programme Design

(Programme subject to change)

The ICF Australasia Conference 2007 will span four days, from 2 October through 5 October 2007, structured in the following way.

Tuesday 2 October—Pre-Conference Day

This day serves two functions - to provide a forum for corporate leaders to hear and engage in debate about the role of coaching and to provide opportunities for the leaders in the coaching industry to meet, share and discuss their ideas and in turn be challenged by new ideas and approaches.

CORPORATE COACHING SYMPOSIUM [7:00am - 12:00pm]

Corporate Breakfast and Speaker

The morning programme for the Pre-Conference day targets the corporate world, with a Corporate Coaching Symposium. There is a breakfast with a speaker who is a Business Leader committed to the value of coaching as a means of building business productivity, one who can confidently engage and challenge the audience.

CEO Panel

The panel will comprise of leaders of a variety of organizations with an interest in coaching, they are leaders who are willing to share their stories, to help the corporate participants explore coaching within their own businesses or to clarify what it takes for coaching to be a driving force in organisations.

Corporate Concurrent Sessions

These speakers will address issues at a tactical level within the organization and give their perspectives on aspects of successful coaching.

OPENING PATHWAYS [12:15 - 5:15pm]

Lunch & Keynote Speaker [12:15pm - 2.00pm]

The programme begins with lunch and a presentation from a Futurist, who sets the scene for coaching possibilities of the future - challenging us to think how coaching can impact and be impacted by the future.

Open Forum [2:15pm - 5.15pm]

The Open Forum that follows, is a forum for the leaders and experienced professionals in the coaching field to come together to advance their own thinking about how coaching can impact the future and how coaching will be impacted by the future. The session will be led by a group process specialist. This will be a synergistic, action-oriented and collaborative session.

or

Concurrent Workshops [2.15pm - 5.15pm]

The afternoon programme offers the choice of a number of concurrent workshops. These workshops are designed as skill-building sessions, practical and innovative, presented by highly credentialed practitioners/coaches. Topics include calculating ROI, building a coaching practice and managing corporate coaching relationships.

ICFA Conference - Wednesday and Thursday 3 - 4 October

The two days of the conference will comprise a carefully structured, balanced and inspiring programme of speakers, workshops, poster presentations and brief wisdom sessions from leading coaches, punctuated by 'atmosphere' sessions to energise and build synergy and community.

The conference is designed to blend learning, commitment and fun. Highlights of the programme include:

Opening Ceremony

This will be a traditional "welcome to country" from the original owners of the land, a welcome that will be not only respectful and inclusive but offers an event to engage delegates from the start.

Our Speakers

We are presenting a range of great speakers, focused on the future and chosen for their expertise and abilities to fill the roles we have cast for them. We have Keynote and Supporting Speakers who can inspire and challenge us with possibilities, people who have achieved greatness themselves, not necessarily as coaches, who can offer us the vision of a different future and alternative paths to follow; we have 'Spark Speakers', those gifted with eloquence, high energy and inspiration who can set the scene to introduce these speakers, either in person or by video-clip. Each of them is capable of challenging delegates, inspiring them to action.

Concurrent Sessions

The conference workshops are organized around the session 'tracks'. There are approximately 30 time slots offering an interesting and inspiring choice for coaches focused on the experienced coach and also enticing for people beginning to explore the value of coaching or beginning their coaching careers.

There are six session tracks for the conference:

Concurrent Session workshops and their presenters have been selected because they offer delegates opportunities to impact the future with the offer of knowledge, skills, action plans, connections and/or resources. They will challenge assumptions, our own and those of the organization.

Energy sessions

When challenges are made, debate is fierce and learning intense, delegates need to be revitalized. We have interspersed energy sessions across the whole programme, strategically positioned to invigorate energy, integrate learning and re-connect our community.

Senior Coach Track

We value the experience, wisdom and leadership of our senior coaches and this track is where we plan to honour their commitment and participation in our conference. We have deliberately avoided drawing on them, yet again, to use their expertise in major presentations. We have chosen rather to show our respect by inviting them to lead small segments where they share their wisdom with us, thereby giving them time and space to enjoy the ideas from others, to meet professionally with their senior colleagues and mingle with all delegates in a relaxed and collegiate manner.

Poster Displays and Presentations

We will have a range of posters on display, representing their creator's ideas, skills and experiences. Lunch-time sessions are organized for their creators to speak to their posters in informal, interactive sessions – yet another means by which we can encourage the sharing of ideas and perhaps the forging of new alliances.

Posters or other displays will also be presented to showcase not-for-profit organizations that provide opportunities for coaches to create a sustainable and equitable future through their support.

Social Events

Relaxation, switch-off, down-time! Our delegates will need time to unwind after the intensity of this innovative programme and so we have a range of options in place for connecting people, opening opportunities for sheer fun:

  • A Cocktail Party, on the first evening, to welcome all Conference Delegates and to experience the Sofitel Melbourne
  • Dining at one of a range of different Melbourne restaurants with opportunities to met, relax and develop connections with colleagues senior level coaches, ICF Leaders and SIGs.
  • The grand finale. The conference has drawn international presenters and delegates and we are making sure they leave with a strong impression of our country and culture.

Friday 5 October —Post-Conference

This day is designed primarily for coaches to reflect and connect with colleagues to find answers to questions such as "Where do I go from here?" and "What should I learn next?" and "What resources will I need?"

The programmes offered are/include.

  • A facilitated session of reflection, integration, support and action planning
  • A workshop on conducting research for the non-scientist and the coaching practicitoner

HOW THIS CONFERENCE IS DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS CONFERENCES:

The differences between this conference and previous ICFA conferences is that ICFA2007 Conference is focused on:

  • Offering all coaches the opportunity to be inspired by other great achievers instead of expecting our great coaches always to be the inspirers
  • Proactively attracting senior level coaches to attend and participate while honoring their wisdom and leadership
  • Offering innovative processes for delegates to dialogue and build supportive networks that can impact their communities
  • Providing opportunities for coaches to support each other to take bold action
  • Enabling delegates to share ideas via posters as well as speaking sessions
  • Offering a research symposium
  • Focusing on sustainability and the conservation of natural resources
  • Meeting in an environment that reflects high standards and professionalism
  • Creating a conference experience in which delegates leave, not simply inspired, but with a plan for action clearly formulated

OUR SPEAKERS

Opening keynote speaker

The keynote speaker will set the context for the conference. He or she will be positioned to inspire a larger vision, alerting us to powers within us, to resources as yet untapped; challenging us with possibilities, encouraging us to dream the future we want to create.

That speaker will have the respect and presence not only to inspire the dream but to motivate us to commit to creating the future using the conference events and community to begin our journey.

Supporting keynote

The supporting keynote speakers will show us ways of being and action steps to create that future. These speakers will be people who have achieved greatness through their own endeavours, who can inspire us in practical ways so that we draw from them the courage to begin to map out a path for ourselves; so that we have confidence to share dreams and build relationships to help us on the journey.

Such speakers might be:

  • A person who has created a new future and shares an inspiring journey, such as an innovator that revolutionises current thinking
  • A person who has contributed significantly to global changes, such as those working for peace or to eliminate hunger or poverty
  • A person who can share the story of an organization that is addressing a global need, such as an NGO developing communities through microeconomics.
