Australasian Conference 2007
Making A Difference
Our vision for the Conference is to inspire the conference community to take action – to think BIG and use our skills to address BIG issues such as sustainable resources, social inequalities and global disharmony.
As coaches it is very important that we "walk the talk" especially when it comes to areas of lifestyle and the impact we have both on the people around us and the environment we live in. Often we talk about abundance but when it comes to environmental issues we seem to have a scarcity mindset rather than an abundance one.
This world is a place of abundance. It is able to support an even bigger world population than we currently have. However, abundance does not mean wasteful. At present, we are wasting huge amounts of the world's resources.
Some of examples of how we can make a difference are:
- Farming - using biodynamic principles we are able to create rich fertile soils that provide healthy and abundant foods. This also has a big impact on the sequestration of atmospheric Carbon Dioxide.
- Electricity - we now have the technology to generate large amounts of electricity from sunlight, wind power and other systems. Ultimately we will be using these systems instead of burning coal (and pouring large amounts of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere). The sooner we can move into this the better.
- Water - there is an abundance of water in the Australia and the world but we are not using it correctly.
- Christopher Cooke , one of our keynote speakers, specialises in projects that support the sustainable use of water
These are some areas that we are all aware of but they seem SO BIG. What can I do to make a difference?
- Change your buying habits so you support organisations which are implementing these practices
- Install a water tank in your home
- Install a "grey water" system.
- Install photovoltaic cells - generate your own electricity and sell the surplus to the providers.
- When building or renovating, incorporate environmental principles so you don't have to run heaters in winter and air-conditioners in summer.
Get creative - there are many ways you can make a difference that are easy and ultimately will enhance your life. Being conscious doesn't need to be boring!
We'd encourage you to explore the resources on these pages; to learn how you can contribute to the future you'd like to see.
