Reflective Practice for Coaches: Building Your Super – Vision

Dates:

13th and 14th June 2012

Speakers:

Sam Magill

Location:

Centre for Organisation Development – Suite 2, Pier 35, 263–329 Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne

About the event:

Reflective Practice is an on-going discipline supported by specific skills, models and ways of noticing what is going on in us as coaches, in our clients, in our relationship with our clients and in the surrounding environment. It is both presence with clients and awareness inside the coach. More than reflecting on coaching sessions after the fact, our intention is to offer skills for reflecting In-Action. Navigating a canoe in white water, for example, requires a plan and skills developed in advance, but there is a subtle knowing-in-action and reflection on it in the moment that allows those skills to be applied real time with nimbleness and flexibility.

Coaching is no different. The here and now of coaching lasts a microsecond, yet it is the place of all possibility where we can notice with a fuller quality of awareness where changes may matter the most in the moment with the client. We call this fuller awareness Super-Vision.

Ongoing 2 hour weekly classes

Times:

Monday and Thursday 7pm EST (Sydney) in 2011

Speakers:

Angela Bird and Glenn Hall

Location:

Telephone/Skype

About the event:

This weekly tele-class is built around Positive Psychology's 24 Character Strengths for those who work in the field of human development. This course aims to equip you with tools to work with what is right with people, rather than what is wrong with them. These tools allow people to develop their strengths in alignment with their creative impulse/personal evolution. It works on the theory that if you are working from your strengths (what is good about you) you will be happy, motivated and purposeful.

We will cover the consequences of overplaying and underplaying your strengths and how even you top strengths can get in the way and stop you or your client's getting what they want out of life. You will learn how to choose the best fit of strengths to support you goals and interventions to develop them.

What is CCE?

Continuing Coaching Education (CCE) refers to formal courses and seminars that teach skills or tools directly related to ICF Core Competencies, the personal development of the coach, the development of the coach's practice, or other skills or tools that are directly applicable to coaching.

What is a CCEU?

A Continuing Coaching Education Unit (CCEU) is 60 minutes of direct educational contact with an instructor. Self-study shall not count toward the awarding of CCEUs, nor will non-educational time such as lunch breaks. CCEUs shall not be rounded up or down.

The main categories of CCEUs are:

  • ICF Core Competencies (CC): Instruction on coaching skills or ethics, or applying technical skills as a coach;
  • Personal development of the coach (PD): Instruction on the development of the coach as a person rather than as a coach;
  • Business development (BD): Instruction on the marketing, finances, technology or other business skills; and
  • Other skills or tools that are directly applicable to coaching (OT): Instruction on skills or tools, such as NLP or personality assessments, that are not coaching skills but may be useful as a coach.

How do coaches use CCEUs?

The ICF offers credentials to individual coaches at three levels: ACC, PCC, and MCC. Credentials must be renewed every three years. The CCE requirement for certification renewal is 40 CCEUs over the three-year period. A minimum of 24 of the required 40 CCEUs must directly relate to the ICF Core Competencies.

The remaining CCEUs may be from the following categories:

1) the personal development of the coach;

2) the development of the coach's practice; or

3) be skills or tools that are directly applicable to coaching.

If you have a question about having your event approved for CCE units, please or call the Asia Pacific Regional Service Centre on +61 2 4340 8848.
